Bast is a nice settlement near Baška Voda, located at the foot of the Biokovo Mountain which gives it a facade of natural beauty and a special kind of appeal thanks to the proximity of the sea which is only 2.5 km away.
The records on this settlement go back to the ancient times when it went by the name of Biston. Baška Voda as well as a coastal settlement and tourist attraction called Baško Polje owe its name to Bast. Some of its cultural monuments include the St. Roch Church from the 15th century, as well as the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary from 1636. If you happen to visit the old cemetery, you will come across old medieval tombstones, and in the settlement, examples of the well preserved Dalmatian traditional architectural style.
Blast is a popular tourist destination thanks to the vicinity of the sea, as well as the nearby mountain area, and as of recently, the south portal of the Sveti Ilija (St. Elijah) tunnel which reduces significantly the duration of the travel from the hinterland to the sea and coast.
Apart from the traditional callings, this place has lived for years from the local quarry. However, towards the end of the 20th century, tourism came into picture together with its accommodation offer of private rooms and apartments, and gastronomic delicacies in Dalmatian taverns.
Bast is certainly a place you should visit if you are looking for a vacation destination and unforgettable gourmet moments.
