Ljubitovica is a village situated some 20 kilometres away from the sea towards Dalmatian hinterland. The whole area of the Ljubitovica parish, dedicated to St. Catherine, counts around 650 residents, who often visit recently restored church, which to them signifies a sort of spiritual cathedral where they express their devotion to their patron and faith cherishing thus the tradition of this nice place. The first records of this settlement are found in documents from 1272, but Ljubitovica is far more famous for its garlic production, also recognized as top-quality garlic of the county, and perhaps even wider. Yes, the residents of Ljubitovica indeed cultivate a high-quality garlic and are proud of that so much they even organize a festival dedicated to this food. They have also founded Garlic Growers Association “Šarac‟ that produces up to 20 tons of this popular product a year. This is an excellent example how even small places in Dalmatia can compare favorably to the largest garlic producers on the basis of the most important element – quality.
