Each corner of the sunniest Croatian island has an interesting story to tell and Vrbovska is not exception. It is the one place we suggest you to visit for many reasons. For instance, you can enjoy gastronomic specialities, wine tours and visit historical sites. Some of these sites are the Fishing Museum, fortress church St Mary of Mercy, St Lawrence Church and small churches of Saint Peter and Roch. We will shortly introduce you to the museum that is also a fortress church, all in one. The Fishing Museum was founded in 1972 with an aim to preserve rich fishing tradition of Vrboska. It contains an impressive collection of traditional fishing nets, tools, equipment and other things from the old fish processing plant. All visitors are provided with an opportunity to get an insight into the way life conditions of the local fishermen used to be like. The St Mary of Mercy Church reveals captivating and very impressive architectonic features, which is why it is often referred to as the jewel of Vrboska and as such is unique at the Adriatic coast. The fortress church is additionally extended and fortified as early as in 1575, following the turbulent times when it served as a safe place for the protection of the religious. Tourists, both domestic as well as foreign often claim this is the most beautiful and attractive church in Croatia and Europe as well, when considering other churches of the same type and period. This church has preserved some remarkable art works from the Renaissance period and as of recently these have been transferred to the St Lawrence Church. We invite you to experience the historical story of a museum-church-fortress from Vrboska.
