How many times have you felt like that bag of chips at your local supermarket or that pizza slice you saw at a pizza joint on your way home from work had exactly your name written all over it?? Don’t let your food cravings get the better of you!
There are numerous reasons as to why this happens, ranging from stress to PMS. Also, these problems affect more women than men.
This particular craving, characteristic of human nature is caused by dopamin in the brain which enables us to feel satisfied with ourselves, energetic and euphoric which in turn creates a dependency or as some would label it – an addiction.
In order to prevent food yearnings and end this horrific merry-go-round, it’s necessary to make your own diet plan.
The next time you experience those insatiable fatty and high-calorie food cravings, ask yourself if that’s really something you want. People who are prone to take on different kinds of unhealthy diets will experience these feelings more so than others. If you’ve decided to begin a diet that seems unrealistic, one containing low-calorie foods, or if on the other hand, you’ve opted for getting rid of a whole food group like carbohydrates, you’re making a conscious decision to subject your body to torture with frequent and extreme bursts of hunger. This is why most diets don’t work. You see, when you experience a sudden craving, it’s highly unlikely you’ll manage to refrain yourself from eating more than you originally planned. The result is the yo-yo effect, in other words, extra weight.
Moreover, sleep deprivation also leads to food cravings. When we’re asleep, the leptin levels decrease which signals the brain that we’re full. So when you’re tired and sleepy, chances are you’ll want foods dear to your heart. Try to dispose of bad habits such as eating food while watching your favourite TV show. Watching TV in general leads to eating more unhealthy foods.
Stress is another culprit. When you’re feeling under pressure, your body releases cortisol signalling the brain you’re in need of food and our comfort food is usually full of sugar and fat – no surprise there.
Whichever the reason, the best advice would be to choose healthy snacks like nuts instead of unhealthy ones. You’ll feel so much better!
