Trpanj is one of the oldest settlements of the Pelješac peninsula – once a place full of labourers and fishermen, and today – a tourist oasis in this part of the Mediterranean.
If the name Trpanj comes from the verb trpjeti, meaning to endure or to suffer, then it truly depicts what its inhabitants had to go through since Mother Nature didn’t provide them with enough fertile land and wide fields where they could cultivate successfully.
However, perseverance, hard work and will managed to overcome everything else and prove that, in the end, they really do pay off.
Trpanj, a place with an old soul, hides important cultural heritage – late antique fortification Gradina, as well as churches, chapels and monuments. Small churches filled with a special kind of beauty, belonging to St. Peter and Paul, Our Lady of Mount Carmel, St. Anthony, St. Roch and St. Nicholas, are also worth mentioning.
Trpanj can also offer you mud baths, amazing beaches, top notch olives and olive oil, as well as wine, in a beautiful setting of vineyards, olive orchards, Mediterranean vegetation and Dalmatian karst.
