Street art, for some people regarded as an act of vandalism, for others is an art that resists all systematizations and classifications, subjected to all the factors of urban life – citizens’ reaction, cleaning service, speed of changes, live communication… Regardless of our own personal view on street art, for decades long it manages to find its space on our streets, walls, facades, as a part of urban mosaic with which we daily meet.
Young creative people who choose street as an exhibition place of their art and use various techniques or that, see this as an opportunity for immediate communication with broader public and a means for expressing their imagination, attitudes, or even as a way to point out particular problems. Since this way of expression is often identified with all sorts of signs which visually deface space, numerous projects have been initiated worldwide, but in Croatia too, in order to change audience’s mindset and raise its popularity simultaneously encouraging art lovers to share their creativity on particularly selected public fields. In this way, numerous walls may become open galleries with no opening hours and bring a small piece of art into our everyday lives.
Painting public spaces, whatever technique applied, if done by the imaginative hands of an aesthetically sensitive artist with an attitude, can in a certain way, enrich the character and face of a street and town, since a mere glance at nicely painted walls can cheer up rainy days, encourage us to contemplate current life issues and bring viewers into a completely different world…
