Stomorska – the oldest settlement on Šolta

Stomorska is an excellent tourist destination on Šolta, a place which offers everything a modern tourist can need, but that hasn’t yet lost its authentic charm of the old fishing place, picturesque waterfront, beautiful beaches and fishermen who early in the morning sell their catch right on the quay nearby some modern yacht.
Stomorska is situated n the north-eastern side of the island, only 12 km away from the main port Rogač. This small fishing place counts 250 permanent residents who can accommodate around 500 guests during summer. Moreover, if you decide to visit Stomorska by boat, it has the anchor capacity of 30 vessels. Its rustic charm and hospitality of local people will immediately win your heart. This is also the oldest settlement on the island with a small shipyard of one family from Hvar.
Once upon a time Cindro family lived here and they even raised a citadel in the lower part of the bay, the same as the descendants of the family Novaković from Tugare. The waterfront was built in the beginning of the 19th century and St Nicholas’ Church in 1870, while the old school was built the last. The building of the former school has now a multi-purpose use due to the efforts of the “Rusmarinke” association so it now serves as a place for exhibitions, degustations, trainings, etc. Stomorska used to be famous for its competent seamen who had sailing boats by which they transported grain, lime and other products. Nowadays however, people from Stomorska still own sailing boats, but they use them for a different purpose, only for the seven-day cruises throughout the Adriatic sea. If possible, come and enjoy some of the old touch of modern tourist offers.
