For over 200 years, the Gardun village and its surroundings have been a big name in the world of archaeology – its archaeological finds found their place in the Archaeological Museum Split, Archaeological Collection of the Franciscan Museum in Sinj, Museum of the Cetina Region, and as of recently, Trilj Regional Musem.
If you happen to visit Trilj, you’ll notice a hill towards the southwest, on the right bank of Cetina, and on it, the St. Peter’s Church in the village of Gardun. In the ancient history, this was the home of Delmatae, an Illyrian tribe.
Interestingly enough, the Gardun Parish has been active since 1717 after the construction of a small stone church of St. Peter. Today, it’s a place for worshippers to follow the tradition of their patron saint and express their own religious sentiments.
