The very core of Korčula has always been luring both local and foreign guests who enjoy in historical and cultural monuments of this famous island. One of such places is St Anthony’s Hill, half-an-hour-walk- away from the centre of Korčula, towards Lumbarda. It represents a religious monument, but also a protected area of natural beauty. There are 102 steps to the top of the hill, bordered by a cypress alley planted in 1708.
The summit is crowned by a small 14th century church dedicated to St Anthony the Abbot. During bishop Španić’s time, at the end of the 17th century, the church was renovated and dedicated to St Anthony of Padua. On the wall of the small neighbouring house there are reliefs of St Anthony the Abbot and St Anthony of Padua. This place also affords the unforgettable view of the Korčula Archipelago. Numerous people gather at St Anthony’s Hill to participate in the feast day of St Anthony that takes place on 13th June.
