Šestanovac in promotion of its natural beauty

Šestanovac, situated very close to the sea, characterized by Mediterranean climate of warm and dry summers and mild winters that only sometimes surprises us with a few white snowflakes that hardly ever retain long on the ground. Attractive location and natural diversity of the Šestanovac area between Biokovo mountain, Cetina river, Sidača and Vitrenik has always been luring numerous people. Fresh air, unspoiled nature, lush vegetation and fauna are priceless values of this place in Dalmatian mainland. An ideal recreational tourism can be experienced through several well-tended tourist trails in the mainland which lead to some interesting locations. The beauty of Šestanovac interweaves with the one of Biokovo Nature Park, considering the fact one small area of the Park is also a part of the Šestanovac area that is in addition endowed with numerous endemic Mediterranean plant species. Southern part of Šestanovac stretches all the way to the canyon of a powerful and the largest Dalmatian river – Cetina. Many athletes enjoy free climbing on the cliffs above the Cetina river and there are also very popular natural locations for another adrenaline attraction – bungee jumping. This area brings other peculiarities its visitors can meet as well like old watermills that locals used for milling wheat, interacting and preserving their old traditions at the same time. These windmills, genuine stone beauties fit perfectly into this scenery creating a truly unique ambience. They can be found all the way along the canyon, from Kreševo to waterfalls of Velika and Mala Gubavica along the northern bank of the Cetina river.

During summer every coastal area of the Adriatic has something good and appealing to offer to its visitors, but the mainland has some other type of charm, due to its extremely clean, almost healing air but also pleasant daily temperatures. It’s no wonder many domestic and foreign tourists have already recognized this so they visit the Cetina river more often. In the last few years rafting and kayaking trips through the Cetina canyon have become popular among the adrenaline lovers. There are also predispositions for another exciting and interesting sport to gain its momentum – paragliding. Fans of this activity would agree that the best destination in this area for paragliding is Kreševica hill, slightly more than 500m high from where one can enjoy magical view on almost entire Šestanovac area. Gourmet specialities and other folk traditions of this area, like keeping of the Lord’s tomb in Radobilja and popular ganga will be a part of some other story. Until then, enjoy naturally beautiful Šestanovac and its surroundings.
