Obrovac is a small town on the Zrmanja River, or to be more exact, 12 km from its mouth, on the crossroads between Zadar, Šibenik and Knin. It is a popular tourist destination thanks to its rich history and cultural heritage such as Krupa monastery, Obrovac Parish, Church of the Holy Trinity, Church of SS. Cosma and Damian, St. George Parish Church in Kruševo, and a Franciscan monastery.
We would especially like to draw your attention to the Obrovac Local History Museum which is very popular not just among tourists, but also among historians and those who feel a special bond with this region. The Museum consists of the ethnographic exhibition, and the permanent display dedicated to one of the most important Croatian naturalists of the 19th century – Spiridion Brusina (1845-1908).
The Museum cherishes the rich cultural and historical heritage of a greater Obrovac area. The ethnographic pieces that are on permanent display include folk costumes, processing of textile fibers and weaving, production and decoration of wooden and musical instruments, and ceramic products. All of these pieces represent a traditional way of life of the greater Obrovac area where the inhabitants’ primary focus was cattle breeding (mostly sheep and goats), and agriculture.
The permanent display titled ”Following the steps of young Brusina through the Obrovac area” consists of photographs, texts, cave drawings and exhibition samples of inland snails and freshwater crayfish, thus encompassing the scientific journey and research of this young scientist in the year 1863.
When you get a chance, come visit the Obrovac Local History Museum, and other beauties of this area, like Zrmanja, a true karst belle.
