Pomelo – citrus maxima

Once I thought I knew everything about citrus fruits, but recently I discovered this is not quite true. While I was searching for some groceries I needed for the following week I ran into a rather unusual fruit. Its appearance has immediately drawn my attention, since it is extremely large reminding me of grapefruit. While reading tiny declaration of the food product, I discovered this unusual fruit is called pomelo. I was little bit confused, not knowing what was this fruit like. However, I did some research and found out pomelo is actually the largest representative of citrus fruits. Its taste is similar to the one of grapefruit, but less bitter. It may be round or oval shaped. It has extremely thick skin that can be both smooth or wrinkled, varying from yellow to green colour. Pomelo tree can grow up to 15m in height with the flowers so fragrant and aromatic that are even used in cosmetic industry for perfume production. Even though this fruit is native to south-east Asia and Malaysia, it is mostly cultivated in China and Thailand. Moreover, it has remarkable nutrient concentration of vitamins and minerals, vitamin C, one of the most famous antioxidants being the most represented of all. It also contains diet fibres, vitamin B6 and magnesium. Vitamin C precisely has anti-age features, which is of course very important information for women, and it functions in a way that it actually neutralizes free radicals that affect our cells making our skin wrinkled and saggy. This means that consummation of vitamin C rich foods can significantly postpone the immanent ageing process, and what better food than pomelo to help us in our endeavours? Grapefruit and pomelo are excellent allies in fight against excess weight so make sure you introduce them into your daily diet, if you like to lose weight. Since vitamin C participates in collagen production, and pomelo contains as many as 600% of daily recommended dose, we in fact help our body to produce this important protein. So, the next time you bump into this fascinating and unusual fruit, don let your ignorance get in away to the perfect health, yours and the ones you love. .
