Mirabela – keeper of the safety and panoramic view

Peovica or Mirabela fortress is an extraordinary historical sight of the town Omiš, the location which is rarely bypassed the visitors of the town on the Cetina river. The Mirabela fortress offers enchanting view over the whole area of the old part of the town, Punta, Priko and Duće, but also on the entire Brač Channel. In the past this place served as a sentinel due to its geostrategic position. It is important to highlight this area also comprises a protected area: from the St Nicholas Chapel along the Cetina river up to the new bridge, then along the coastline of the Fošal street to the town harbour and all the way to the Trijun rampart, including the town cemetery and the rampart, alongside of the back of the Peova hill, along the northern side of the Peovica fortress and again to the St Nicholas chapel by the Cetina river. All these monuments date from the 16th to the 19th century and are made in the style of renaissance and folk architecture. The fortress has four floors, and once you visit it, you’ll hardly forget its beauty.
