New Zealand is a country of stunning landscapes, numerous national parks, hot springs, and rich Māori heritage. Aotearoa or ”land of the long white cloud” is how the Māori describe New Zealand.“.
When you’re travelling around New Zealand, you really feel like you’re sailing on a long white cloud. You’re blinded by the intact nature, diversity of plant and animal species, and mesmerised by unusual natural events you don’t get to see every day.
One of those wonders is geysers.
A geyser is a geothermal spring on the surface of the Earth that intermittently discharges hot water or steam into the air. One of the main reasons as to why this happens is the close proximity of magma. When the water comes into contact with magma and hot rocks, it suddenly heats up and creates high pressure which finally leads to hot water or steam jet-like eruptions.
Rotorua is a place known for its geysers and amazing hot springs. If you’re a nature lover, we suggest you go visit Whakarewarewa, a geothermal area with Pohutu Geyser that erupts approximately hourly to heights of up to 30 m.
One thing’s for sure, these powerful and magnificent geysers will surely get your attention.
