Lines visually separate shapes and elements of a drawing, and represent the main construction element in all art forms. Generally speaking, there are three types of lines – organic lines, cross contour lines and intersecting lines that create curves.
Lines also differ one from the other when it comes to thickness, and dye intensity and depth – they can be dotted and continuous.
While you are invested in drawing, and you have different drawing tools at your disposal, like a triangle or French curve, try to enhance the beauty of the line with freeform drawing. Let lines stem from the unrestricted movement of your hand which shows character and personality of the one performing the action.
Observe lines that shape things all around you, and place them in corresponding groups. Practice every chance you get, and find that inner line that tells a story of your emotional self through your artwork.
