Krčić River – place where recreational activities and natural beauty meet

   by  Mico Samardzija

The Krčić River has been protected since 1964. Together with the Krka River, it forms a unique hydrographic system wih numerous hydrographic and morphological karst formations.
With length of approximately 10 km, from its spring to Topolj waterfall (by the Krka River delta), Krčić stands out with its deep and picturesque canyon. The end of the canyon is characterised by a lovely flexure of geological layers from the Triassic and Jurrasic periods as well as interesting looking denuded forms of the earth’s surface.
You can find travertine cascades in the canyon, with Topoljski buk attracting the most attention where the Krka River springs.

Along the Krčić River there is a 15 km bicycle trail leading from the Krka spring. It was built under the Napoleon’s reign, and reconstructed during the rule of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The trail is surrounded by a pleasant canyon landscape, along the beautiful karst river that dries up in the summer, creating amazing travertine canyoning trails.
If you find yourselves in the Šibenik-Knin County area, take a bicycle or a car ride, or any other mode of transportation for that matter, and visit the breathtaking scenery of the Krčić River.
