Interrelationship between design, art, sculpture and architecture

At its onset, engineering design hasn’t had much assistance from art and sculpture. Yet, driven by desire and need to decorate, it gradually started to import decorative elements in order to “beautify” or even “camouflage” the ugly machine.

However, it is important to note that the beginning of industrialization was characterized by the search for beauty in, what we call, “function”; at that time, design, architecture, art and sculpture have started to interrelate. The matter of aesthetics in design has lead to the question of “understanding the epoch”, which in fact is a matter of style.
It may be argued that ever since the industrial design began to take its contours, the new style is coming our way, the one where different art forms, music, architecture and literature become strikingly similar in their style (expression), and these stylistic similarities are even more noticeable in related fields, which is especially the case in the world of visual arts that has been derived from design.
