The Knin region is full of forts and fortifications. There’s one that caught our attention, situated 2 km from Knin, above the Krčić Waterfall. It’s known as the Topolje fortification.
The fortification is located right by a caravan route, that is, close to an old Napoleon’s road heading towards the Krčić Waterfall with a crucifix, so it represents a popular pilgrimage site. Some archaeological findings, like the ax from the Eneolithic, serve as proof of life in the ancient times, or to be more specific, from 3500 BC.
The Topolje fortification has attracted the attention of many. It only takes around 20 minutes to get there on foot, or faster in an SUV.
