Don’t let spring fever get the best of you

Spring is almost knocking at our doors, days are becoming longer and sunnier, and the temperature has gone up a few notches. As much as that makes us happy, there are a lot of people who receive this climate change with a frown on their faces.

Why? You constantly feel weak, listless, irritable, can’t seem to concentrate, and are suddenly more susceptible to colds because of your poor immune system. Are these reasons good enough? Unfortunately, you were picked as a target by spring fever, but luckily, this won’t last long.
The reason it appears in the first place is that our bodies can’t handle all the climate changes happening around us, such as sudden increase in temperature, air pressure changes and more exposure to the sun. So, the reasoning behind the onset of spring fever is completely understandable. Long, foggy and chilly (thanks to the bora wind) winter is finally behind us, and so our bodies are experiencing a certain shock as warmer days keep approaching.
Moreover, the intensity of symptoms you might have also depends on your lifestyle. For instance, if you would describe yourself as a couch potato in the making who’s no stranger to junk food, you’re the kind of person who will surely have more pronounced symptoms compared to a person who’s an outdoorsy type and likes healthy foods.

Now that you’ve been face to face with spring fever, vitamins and minerals are your best allies who will guide you through this difficult period. B vitamins and vitamin C, together with key minerals, will help you recharge your batteries, and live your life to the fullest. Vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant, will transfer more oxygen to your blood cells, and in turn give you more energy than before. Also, your immune system will significantly improve which will help your body deal with all the changes. So make sure you eat enough fresh fruit and vegetables rich in vitamin C, like citrus fruits, kale, peppers, and red cabbage.

Let’s go back to oxygen transport for a second. It’s important to stress the importance of iron here. You see, iron is a vital supplier of energy, which especially women can benefit from who are more likely to suffer from iron-deficiency. But if you like tuna, peas, oats, green leafy vegetables, red meat and beetroots, you’ll get rid of this problem in no time.

You can stop worrying now. Just take better care of your vitamin and mineral intake, and food in general, and include long walks in your daily schedule. You’ll see that all of these unpleasant symptoms will pretty soon be a thing of the past.
