Dalmatian dog – sensitive, adaptable, intelligent

The Dalmatian is a member of a very old breed of dogs. It can be easily recognised by its black or liver-coloured spots. As for the name, it comes from Croatia, or to be more accurate, Dalmatia, believed to be the place of origin of this particular breed. Actually, it’s one of 5 breeds native of Croatia.

The Dalmatian is a cheerful and playful dog, loyal to its owners. It’s mid-sized with excellent stamina. Energetic and friendly, the Dalmatian likes to spend time outdoors, especially in the countryside, big gardens, playing with horses and children. Like any other breed of dogs, it has a rich history – the illustrations depicting it were found more than 4000 years ago! There are several names in Croatian that accompany it but ”Dalmatiner” is the most popular one. In the past, it was used in packs for hunting, as a trail hound, bird dog, retriever, and exterminator of vermin. Moreover, it was a carriage dog, and in America, it used to lead the way for horse-drawn fire engines.
Today, this beautiful dog serves as a good companion, what with being of delicate nature and a loyal friend, that is, a perfect pet. It’s also an adaptable and intelligent animal, easily groomed, and very clean. The average lifespan is 12 years.
